From spiritual leaders to social entrepreneurs: the people you didn’t expect to find in Davos

Davos is about more than CEOs and heads of state

Michael Hanley

The World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in Davos is most famous as a gathering for top level CEOs, heads of state and major public figures. But the Forum is built on the stakeholder principle, the conviction that the only way to solve complex challenges in an interdependent world is to understand competing perspectives, develop empathy and work towards solutions that satisfy as many different interests as possible.

So we make a major effort to involve people from across global society, to make sure that those in Davos include grassroots representatives working for social change, spiritual and artistic leaders, worker representatives, members of the Global Shapers Community, our network of global youth, technology disruptors, top level academics and experts and more.

Those visiting Davos in January 2017 will include many working bravely to change the world for the better, from the founder of Syria’s White Helmets rescue squad to social entrepreneurs cracking the toughest problems.

Below you can explore some of the participants representing some of the diverse communities being represented at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2017:
