Have you ever had an idea that you know could really make a positive impact on the world - if only you had the means to make it happen? Well good news - the World Economic Forum is launching a campaign to help you do exactly that.

It’s all taking place on the short video app TikTok. We’ve created a hashtag called #MyBigIdea where you can pitch your idea to a vast audience on social media. All you need to do is record a short video and post it to your TikTok account, adding the hashtag, #MyBigIdea.

So, what kinds of ideas are we talking about? They can be anything you like - from a science project you’re working on to clever way to recycle plastic bottles, from solutions for students struggling with online learning to a way to fight racial discrimination.

The campaign will launch on 25 January and ‘trend’ for the whole week, beaming your creativity across the internet. But it won’t only be TikTok users who see your idea: also in the audience is a panel of experts linked to the World Economic Forum, who are looking for fresh ideas to turn into real-life projects to make the world a better place.

Who are these experts? They’re part of UpLink, a crowdsourcing platform launched by the World Economic Forum in partnership with Salesforce and Deloitte to connect really great ideas to the experts, resources and ‘accelerators’ who can help make them a reality. It's free and open to anyone who wants to join.

There have been some great ideas, such as Dendra Systems, who are using drones to plant trees; or Flare, who created a ride-hailing app for ambulances in Kenya. Or Flipflopi, who are sailing around the world on a boat made out of recycled flip-flops to raise awareness about plastic pollution.

But it’s not just for die-hard entrepreneurs. Through this TikTok challenge we’re hoping to open up the platform to a wider, younger audience, to celebrate unique perspectives and problem-solving skills.

The #MyBigIdea videos with the most likes will be featured in a web article going out to the World Economic Forum’s social media following of 27 million people. The most popular ideas will also be considered by UpLink’s judges, and the contributors contacted directly.

Don’t have a TikTok account?

If you don’t have your own TikTok account, it’s easy to create one. Simply download the app for free and create an account. You can find a handy guide to getting started on TikTok here. Or we can post your video for you via our @worldeconomicforum account on TikTok (though please note we maintain editorial control). Email your video to abru@weforum.org

Er, what is TikTok?

TikTok is an app for creating and discovering fun and eye-catching videos. It’s responsible for most of the internet celebrities and viral trends you’ve heard about over the past year. According to the data, a billion or so people have downloaded the app and now spend more time on it than on Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat, Instagram and virtually all other major social media apps. In short, it’s massive.

That’s why it’s the perfect place to come if you want to share your idea. Not only will you find a vast audience for your genius; you’ll also be joining TikTok’s community of viral video stars, and participating in a hashtag that is set to trend.
