- Morgan Stanley's Chief Sustainability Officer Audrey Choi shares how finance can play a key role in addressing some of the biggest challenges of our day.
Audrey Choi, Morgan Stanley's Chief Sustainability Officer, had a non-traditional path to working in an investment bank. Her career includes time as a reporter and bureau chief at the Wall Street Journal and she later worked in public policy, first for the Clinton Administration and then for Al Gore. And she was also chief of staff to Janet Yellen when Yellen served as the chair of the White House's Council of Economic Advisers.
When she came to Morgan Stanley it was first to help with leadership development. There however, she saw a different opportunity - a way of thinking for the climate that all leaders will need to be investing in for the future.
This was 2008 - at the start of the recession - and she pitched a special investing group with a mission to harness capital markets to protect the environment. Done right it could - as she puts it - create a "flywheel for change".
On the latest episode of Meet the Leader, Choi talks about making that leap at the start of the economic downtown and the shift that's made when you begin looking at markets with sustainability in mind.
She'll also share why non-traditional backgrounds are key to tackling sustainability and how anyone can be a leader, despite their title.
