Abishek S Narayan

Global Shaper, Zurich Hub

Abishek S Narayan is a researcher on Water for development and humanitarian aid. He is currently managing innovative urban water and water - energy - food nexus research projects in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa, at the Swiss Federal Institute for Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag). He was also a consultant to the World Bank's Water Global Program.

He received his PhD at ETH Zurich on planning inclusive and sustainable urban water & sanitation in the Global South. He has a background in Engineering and Policy from Anna and Oxford Universities. His interests in water came from founding the Clean Adyar Initiative, a citizen action group for restoring a river in Chennai, India. He is a visiting lecturer at IHE Delft, EPF Lausanne and TU Munich and Berlin. His experience includes the World Bank and 100RC-Rockefeller Foundation.

Abishek is a recipient of the Commonwealth Scholarship and Green Talents award among others. He is on the core group and boards of global water networks such as the Sustainable Sanitation Alliance, and the Swiss Water Partnership, where he coordinates youth activities. His expertise on water and sanitation is recognized by the UN and IWA and has been invited on their expert groups and council meetings. Abishek is also an award winning science communicator and has given over 100 presentations, panel moderations, key-notes and public lectures.

Abishek is also a Global Shaper at the World Economic Forum's Zurich Hub.
