Alan is the Arup Group Chairman responsible for the well-being of the entire firm. His previous role was Group Chief Operating Officer with overall operational and commercial responsibility.
Prior to this, Alan was the Chair of the UK, Middle East and Africa Region with direct responsibility for the strategic direction, commercial and technical performance and staff development for over 5,000 regional people. Previous to that, he was Chair of the firm’s Global Consulting Practice – a group of 2,000 specialists in Planning and Technology Services and Management Consulting.
Dr Belfield has become recognised as a technical authority in his field and has appeared as an expert witness in a number of arbitration cases and as a technical expert on TV. He is an active member of various organisations, such as the Professional Business Services Council, London First and the CBI.
