Do women make better political representatives than men?
Women are poised to make great gains in political representation in the US. But does the gender of the person who represents you in Congress really matter? Yes, says new research.
Amy Steigerwalt is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Georgia State University. Her most recent book, coauthored with Jeffrey Lazarus, presents a novel explanation for gender differences in legislative behavior (Gendered Vulnerability: How Women Work Harder to Stay in Office, 2018, University of Michigan Press). She has also published works on unanimous decision-making on the US Supreme Court (The Puzzle of Unanimity, 2013, University of Stanford Press), and the political and public responses to judicial decisions (Judging Law and Policy, 2012, Routledge).
