We need to talk about big data and genomics. Here's why – and how
Genomics is emerging as a key source of data in healthcare. The benefits could be enormous, but we need to have a public debate about the risks and rewards.
With 20+ years expertise of genomic medicine, ethics and social science I now lead Society and Ethics Research at the Wellcome Genome Campus in Cambridge, UK (including the Wellcome Sanger Institute). I'm also a Professor/Affiliate Lecturer at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge, UK and the current Chair of the Association of Genetic Nurses and Counsellors in the UK and ROI. My expertise revoles around what patients want from genomics and how to deliver genetic counselling services; I also have expertise in global public and patient engagement with genomics. PhD Psychology, MSc Genetic Counselling, BSc Genetics, GRCB registration.

There has never been a more important time to start a public conversation about genomics. Could a global PR campaign help to demystify this technology?
