Douglas McCauley

Director, Benioff Ocean Science Laboratory; Professor, University of California, Santa Barbara

Dr. Douglas McCauley is a Professor with appointments at the University of California Santa Barbara and UC Berkeley. Dr. McCauley has a degree in political science and a degree in biology from UC Berkeley and a PhD from Stanford University. He conducted postdoctoral research at Stanford, Princeton, and UC Berkeley. McCauley was named an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow in the Ocean Sciences, a climate visionary by the Washington Post, and "Human of the Year" by Vice media. Dr. McCauley directs the Benioff Ocean Science Laboratory. His research expertise includes ocean science, plastic pollution, AI for the environment, and sustainability in the energy transition. Dr. McCauley is a member of WEF's Friends of Ocean Action team and WEF's Global Future Council on the Future of Responsible Resource Use.
