Dr Hauke Hartmann is Senior Project Manager at the Bertelsmann Stiftung and directs the BTI project Shaping Change – Strategies of Development and Transformation. His focus areas are democracy, human rights, development policy, and transformation processes. Mr. Hartmann joined Bertelsmann Stiftung in 1999 and his positions there have included: specialist for local-level integration policy and project manager for “Strategies to Combat Rightwing Extremism” before transitioning to his current post. He is responsible for the Bertelsmann Transformation Index, which measures the current state of democracy and market economy in a given country, its evolution over the past two years and the quality of governance performed by its leadership.
