Ilhyock Shim is senior economist at the Monetary and Economic Department of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). He has been at the BIS since 2004, working at the Financial Institutions and Infrastructure unit in Basel and the Economics and Financial Markets for Asia and the Pacific unit in Hong Kong SAR. His research interests cover financial markets, financial institutions and prudential policies, topics on which he has published both in academic and policy outlets. Between 1997 and 1999, he worked at Korea Ministry of Finance and Economy as deputy director in charge of deposit insurance and financial sector restructuring. In 2010, he was advisor to the G20 Affairs Office of the Bank of Korea. He holds a PhD in Economics from Stanford University and a MA and BA in Economics from Seoul National University.
