James Lockett has worked in Europe, the USA, ASEAN and China with more than 30 years' experience in international trade, customs and investment law and policy. He has successfully led many projects to promote international trade and investment. For example, he led the USAID ASEAN-US Technical Assistance and Training Facility when he was working at the ASEAN Secretariat, Jakarta in 2011-12 and an earlier technical assistance project in the Indonesian Ministry of Trade. He was formerly a Senior International Attorney-Advisor with the U.S. Department of Commerce, and also has been a partner in two major international law firms, including being based for 14 years in Brussels. James Lockett has been an active member of the WEF Global Agenda Council for Trade and FDI for 2014-16, contributing actively including papers on trade and cyber-security and on digital trade. He has also been active in the E-15 work on both investment and digital trade. He is now a member of the Global Futures Council on Trade and Investment. His in-depth thoughts and experience of international trade, customs and investment laws and policy, combined with sharing of the unique global experiences of Huawei as a Chinese multinational, will benefit the Council both with cross-industry insights and with practical suggestions.
