This new measure can tell us how much government debt is sustainable
A new measure of sovereign debt suggests that governments generally borrow close to the maximum sustainable level.
Jean-Charles Rochet is a former student of École Normale Supérieure (Paris) and holds a Ph.D.in Mathematical Economics from Paris – Dauphine University . His dissertation won the Arconati-Visconti award. He has taught in Paris, France (Dauphine University, ENSAE and École Polytechnique) , London, U.K. ( B.P. visiting professor, London School of Economics, 2001-02) and has visited many universities and central banks all over the world. He is a member of the Institut Universitaire de France and a Fellow of the Econometric Society since 1995. He has also been council member of European Economic Association, and associate editor of Econometrica.
