John Thompson

Wold Family Professor in Environmental Balance for Human Sustainability, Cornell University

Dr. John Thompson is the Wold Family Professor in Environmental Balance for Human Sustainability. Thompson completed M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Toronto and has an undergraduate degree from Oxford University. In 1982, Dr. Thompson joined BP Minerals group of companies. Since 1991, he has served as Director of the Mineral Deposit Research Unit at the University of British Columbia, managing and carrying out research supported by over twenty companies. In 1998, he joined Teck and was involved in exploration and development projects for base and precious metals in over 15 countries. Thompson was the Chief Geoscientist at Teck Resources. Also at Teck Resources Limited he has held the positions of Vice President of Technology and Development and Chief Technology Officer. Thompson joined PetraScience Consulting in 2012. He is the President of the Canada Mining Innovation Council. Dr. Thompson serves as a Member of the advisory board of Chrysalix Energy.
