We’re failing millions of refugee children and creating a lost generation
With no end in sight, the refugee crisis is preventing some children from growing into healthy, productive adults.
Katie Dawson is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of New South Wales and a Clinical Psychologist. She completed her PhD in Aceh, Indonesia, exploring the applicability of western-based cognitive models of PTSD in children exposed to natural disaster and conflict. She works in a clinical and research capacity at the Traumatic Stress Unit at Westmead Hospital and is also a consultant with the World Health Organization. In this capacity she is involved in several clinical trials testing the efficacy of adult and child psychological interventions delivered by lay-counselors in humanitarian settings, worldwide.
