How not to create a civic tech organization and what to do instead
Civic tech organizations have an important role to play in the COVID-19 recovery. A new guide offers advice for creating organizations for change.
Koketso Moeti
Koketso Moeti has a long background in civic activism and has over the years worked at the intersection of governance, communication and citizen action. She currently serves as the Founding Executive Director of amandla.mobi, a community of over 900,000 people working to turn every cellphone into a democracy-building tool to ensure that those most affected by injustice - low income Black women in particular – can take collective action on issues affecting their lives.
Prior to this, Moeti worked and consulted for a wide range of national and international organisations. In 2019 she was announced as an Atlantic fellow for racial equity. She is also part of the inaugural class of Obama Foundation fellows and an Aspen New Voices senior fellow. Moeti is a founding member of the African Digital Rights Network. She also serves as the chairperson of the SOS Coalition, a coalition of South African organisations committed to and campaigning for public broadcasting in the public interest, as well as a reference group member for the Civic Tech Innovation Network. When not working, she can be found writing and has been published widely by leading publications.
