Long Chen

Long Chen is Chair the Sustainability Steering Committee of Alibaba Group, responsible for Alibaba’s ESG strategy development and implementation. He is also President of Luohan Academy and Executive Provost of Hupan Entrepreneurship Research Center. Prior to this, he was the Chief Strategy Officer of Ant Financial Group during 2014-2018. Chen received his Ph.D. in Finance from University of Toronto, and was a tenured professor at Olin Business School, Washington University in St. Louis. After returning to China in 2010, Chen took the position of Associate Dean of Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB), Professor of Finance. He was also Chairman of CKGSB’s Alumni Council.
Luohan Academy was founded in Hangzhou on June 26, 2018. It is an open research institute initiated by the Alibaba Group and launched by world-renowned social scientists, including seven Nobel Prize laureates in economics, and comprising the Academy’s academic committee. The Academy is dedicated to collaborating with leading social scientists and practitioners worldwide, to collectively explore and shape discourse and consensus around the tremendous social and economic transformations brought by digital technology. The purpose of the Luohan Academy is to serve society at large, addressing the most important global challenges as well as having an eye toward humanity’s long-term future.
