Author of numerous articles and books including: The Rebirth of History: Eastern Europe in the Age of Democracy (1990); The Fall of Yugoslavia: The Third Balkan War (1992, 94 and 96); The Balkans, 1804-1999, Nationalism, War and the Great Powers (1999); Crime without Frontiers (2008), an international bestseller translated into 31 languages. Recipient of awards including Distinguished Fulbright Scholar Award (1996).
