PhD dissertation is concerned with employing Islamic Sukuk in promoting social entrepreneurship. Social entrepreneur promoting the concept of responsible and proactive capitalism, on which firms do not only seek to avoid activities that may negatively affect the community but strive to create shared value, where the firm and the community profits. Started first venture in Brussels in 2009, with a mission to promote sustainable agriculture. 2011, started Shagara, an NGO that uses design thinking techniques to employ trees in an attempt to mitigate climate change and poverty. Has provided business mentorship to PWC’s “Sustinnovation Hub”, where university students learn about turning their ideas into a sustainable business. Has managed to secure seed funding for new start-up, Nutrients Recycling, which applies innovative techniques to maximize the value of organic waste.
