Rebecca Miano

Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Investments, Trade & Industry,

She has served as a Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of East African
Community, The Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) & Regional Development.
While at EAC, She also served as an Ex Officio Member of the East African
Legislative Assembly (EALA)
Prior to this appointment to the cabinet, she was the first female Managing
Director & CEO of Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC; the leading
electricity generating company in the Eastern Africa region. She held this
prestigious position for a period of 5 years.
Hon. Miano has had a 30 year multi-faceted career in the energy sector and is
a recognised continental business leader focused on running KenGen as a
sustainable entity. She’s an energy expert specializing in renewal energy,
structuring international and regional multi-million business deals,
international regulatory framework in sustainability development and climate
change, policy development, corporate governance and business law. She
founded the noble Pink Energy forum to address female and gender parity issues
in KenGen.
Miano is a celebrated strategist, passionate for good Governance, experience in
Capital markets and a Steller team player. She has a network of Mentees in
Leadership and life skills as well as a passionate and inspirational towards
giving her teams excellent motivation to achieve their goals.
In November 2019, she was appointed to the Board of Global Compact Network,
Kenya also named among the Top 100 Women CEOs in Africa by Reset Global
People in partnership with Pulse and Avance Media. She joined the World Bank
Group’s Advisory Council on Gender and Development in July 2020. She again
featured among the top 25 movers and shakers in Africa in 2021 by the African
Energy Chamber.
In 2010, she won the Company Secretary of the Year award in the Champions
of Governance Awards series. Subsequently, she was awarded the Order of the
Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW) and in 2019, the Moran of the Order of the
Burning Spear (MBS) in recognition of her outstanding service to the nation.
Later she would be conferred with The Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart
(EGH) . Hon. Miano is a St. Paul’s University Council Member since 2010;
chaired the Finance and General Purposes Committee from 2013 to 2016. She
has also served in Finance Committee of the National Council of Churches of
Kenya (NCCK).
Miano is a lawyer by profession.
