Richard Giulianotti is Professor of Sociology in the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences at Loughborough University, and also Professor II at Telemark University College, Norway. He has undertaken extensive research into the social role of sport in different parts of Europe, south Asia, southern Africa, and the Middle East. He is currently leading a two-year research project on ‘Sport for Development and Peace’, funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Council.
