Sharon Thorne

Chair Emeritus, Deloitte

Sharon was the Deloitte Global Chair from 2019 – 2023. She has 37 years of experience auditing and advising clients across a broad range of sectors and has spent more than three decades on various Deloitte and external not for profit boards, including 14 years on the Deloitte Global Board.

An advocate for collective action on environmental sustainability and climate change, Sharon regularly engages with global leaders from businesses, governments and NGOs on these topics, and frequently speaks about ESG-related matters in public forums. She is a strong believer in the need for greater diversity, equity, and inclusion in business and civil society, and she has long championed greater diversity in senior leadership roles to build a more equitable future for all.

Prior to leading the Deloitte Global Board, Sharon spent a decade in various executive roles culminating in Deputy CEO and Managing Partner Global & Strategy of Deloitte North West Europe.
Sharon was a Deloitte UK audit partner for 20 years and has extensive experience serving as lead audit partner for FTSE-listed and large private clients and coordinating services around the globe. She also has significant advisory experience, including two secondments to Deloitte UK’s financial advisory business and helping her clients with various merger & acquisition activities.
Sharon’s previous governance experience includes the A4S Advisory Council, the Social Progress Imperative Board, the World Economic Forum Centre for New Economy and Society Stewardship Board, the Shanghai International Financial Advisory Council, the Confederation of British Industry Board of Directors and as a Trustee for Prostate Cancer UK.

Sharon graduated from Oxford University with a degree in Philosophy, Economics, and Politics; and she is a fellow of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. She lives in the UK with her husband John and their two dogs, has three grown-up stepdaughters, and enjoys watching Manchester United and playing golf.
