Data can help decarbonize cities – let us explain
Decarbonization, or the shift to cleaner, more sustainable sources of energy, is essential to tackling climate change. How can cities achieve this transition?
Stephen Lorimer is on the founding team of the Centre for Net Zero. He is responsible for their partnerships and building a community of researchers around their work, building faster and fairer paths to net zero. He came to the Centre from the civil service, managing teams covering government data sharing and science policies for the NHS COVID-19 app. At the Greater London Authority, he developed the commercial model for the London Office of Technology and Innovation.
Lorimer also led the research team that delivered the “Smarter London Together Roadmap” as the city’s approach to the digital transformation of city services, the development of the London Datastore and collaborative public procurement of smart city technology products. He has a PhD in Energy and Built Environment from Bartlett School of the Built Environment at UCL, where he modelled domestic electricity demand. Before his work in energy and technology, he was an urban design consultant to local authorities across the UK, Ireland and France.
