Mr. Tang studied mathematics at Peking University, and gained a bachelor’s degree in economics at the University of the South (Sewanee) in the US. In 2018, he was awarded the honorary doctorate degree of the University of the South (Sewanee) for his outstanding achievements in the fintech field. During his early career, Mr. Tang joined Wall Street investment bank Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette where he worked on IPO, bond issuance and M&A in the areas of financial services, telecommunications, media and technology.
Mr. Tang founded CreditEase in Beijing in 2006. After efforts of 13 years, CreditEase has grown into an internationally leading fintech enterprise, promoting the development of inclusive finance and wealth management career in China. On December 18, 2015, CreditEase listed its online consumer finance and wealth management subsidiary, Yiren Digital, on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE:YRD), the first fintech company IPO from China in the global capital markets.
In 2017, CreditEase Wealth Management was awarded the “Best Wealth Management Firm of the Year” by AsiaMoney. In 2018, CreditEase Wealth Management was again awarded the “Best Wealth Management Firm of the Year” and the “Best Wealth Management Firm for Fund of Funds” by AsiaMoney. In 2019, CreditEase Wealth Management was awarded the “Best Wealth Manager for Family Office Services”, the “Best Wealth Manager for Overseas Asset Management” and the “Best Independent Wealth Manager for High Net-Worth Individuals” by AsiaMoney. In addition, it was awarded the “Best Social Impact Project in China” at The Global Wealth and Society Awards 2018, the “Best Non-Bank Private Wealth Management Institution in China” in 2017 and the “Best Non-Bank Private Wealth Product” in 2016 by the Asian Banker. In 2018, Asian Private Banker awarded CreditEase Wealth Management the Best Wealth Manager for Digital Innovation, the Best Wealth Manager for High Net Worth Services, and the Best Wealth Manager for Alternative Advisory and Excellence Wealth Manager (China Domestic categories).
Mr. Tang serves as Chairman of Beijing Internet Finance Association and the member of Specialized Committee for Funds of Funds of China Securities Investment Fund Industry Association, Global Leadership Committee of Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, and Shanghai Finance Institute. In September 2018, Mr. Tang was appointed financial advisor of Xi'an Municipal People's Government. CreditEase serves as member of Standing Committee of National Internet Finance Association of China as well as Vice Chairman of China Micro-credit Companies Association. Invited by the Singapore Government, as from November 2018, Mr. Tang will sit on its International Technology Advisory Panel to advise Fintech developments. Mr. Tang is also a member of The Wall Street Journal CEO Council and Fortune CEO Initiative. In March 2019, Mr. Tang became the executive director of China Mergers & Acquisitions Association.
