Making finance cybersecure to ensure an inclusive recovery
Amid the rapid post-COVID digital transformation, a new blueprint for collaboration will strengthen the financial system against cyber attacks.
Dr. Tim Maurer
An international expert on technology and geopolitics, Tim is Co-director of the Cyber Policy Initiative and a Senior Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. In 2018, Cambridge University Press published his book Cyber Mercenaries: The State, Hackers, and Power shedding light on the growing cyber risks to societies around the world. With trillions of dollars of pandemic recovery funds at stake, he is currently focused on how to better protect the financial system against cyber threats. He is proud to partner with the World Economic Forum on this effort. Over the past decade, his work has also covered the major Internet governance debates, the future of human rights online, and data & surveillance policy. He regularly advises governments, international organizations, and industry on cyber and digital policy from the IMF to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and the United Nations. While Tim has a strong interest in all things digital, he occasionally misses the hands-on experience of his early career working with refugees in Africa and Europe. A graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School, he mentors other first-generation college graduates through Harvard’s First Generation Alumni Network to help maximize their potential.
