As well as his work as a senior consulting fellow on the Asia programme at Chatham House, Tim Summers teaches at the Centre for China Studies, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and consults commercially on China. He is the author of Yunnan - A Chinese Bridgehead to Asia (Chandos 2013), which brings together his interests in China's regional political economy and international interactions. He was previously a British diplomat, culminating in a posting as consul-general in Chongqing, southwest China, from 2004 to 2007. He holds a PhD in Chinese studies from CUHK, and an MA from Queens’ College, Cambridge. He is based in Hong Kong.
