Tony Matthews, PhD, is an Urban & Environmental planner with a strong track record in research, teaching and practice. He is widely published and cited in international planning literature aimed at scholars, students and practitioners.
His research interests include: urban development; the interplay between cities and climate change; climate change adaptation; green infrastructure; community-led engagement in planning processes, place-making; policy creation; resource management; and urban consolidation.
Tony has successfully competed for substantial research funding in recent years, with awards from CSIRO and the Australian Research Council amongst others.
Tony holds the professional designation of Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI). He has experience of planning practice at local, state and national government levels. He has contributed to strategic, multi-disciplinary consultancy projects focused on urban and regional development in Australia and elsewhere.
