Mr. Khachaturyan elected as a President of the Republic of Armenia on March 2022, before he served as the Minister of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia from 2021 to 2022 and held an independent position on the Board of ArmEconomBank from 2019 to 2021. Prior to his involvement in government and finance, he actively contributed to scientific research and led various NGOs and non-governmental Think Tanks. Mr. Khachaturyan also took on the role of editor for the Armenian versions of several bestsellers, such as Nassim Taleb's "The Black Swan," Richard H. Thaler's "Misbehaving," and Dan Senor's "Start-up Nation." and etc.
In addition to his senior roles in the high-tech, industrial, and financial sectors, Mr. Khachaturyan has a rich history in political and public service. He served as a Member of the Parliament from 1995 to 1999, Adviser to the President of the Republic of Armenia from 1996 to 1998, and Mayor of Yerevan from 1992 to 1996. Before entering the political and public arena, he worked as Deputy General Director at the "Mars" Factory of semiconductor from 1989 to 1992 and held various executive positions at the "Hrazdanmash Enterprise" from 1982 to 1989.
Born on April 22, 1959, Mr. Khachaturyan excelled academically, receiving awards and a gold medal upon graduating from school in 1976. He later earned his degree in economics from the Yerevan Institute of National Economy in 1980 and holds the title of Candidate of Sciences in Economics. During the tumultuous 90s, he embraced a public and political path due to the challenging circumstances faced by the country.
Currently, Mr. Khachaturyan also serves as the board chairman of the Armenian State University of Economics. He is happily married: has a daughter and a son, and takes joy in being a grandfather to two grandchildren.
