Higher shipping costs may lift Asia’s low inflation
Inflation has risen in many emerging and developed economies. Levels remain lower in Asia than in many regions, but high shipping costs could change that.
Yan Carrière-Swallow is an Economist in the Regional Studies Division of the IMF’s Western Hemisphere Department, where he conducts research and analysis on Latin America and the Caribbean. Prior to joining the IMF in 2012, he was an Economist at the Central Bank of Chile in Santiago.
