This start-up is helping millions of farmers across Africa in 27 languages

Farmerline is revolutionizing agriculture in Africa with its AI-driven interactive voice response tool, Darli AI. Available in 27 languages, including 20 African languages, Darli serves as a 911 for farmers—providing critical farming insights in a language they understand. Research shows that farmers are 60% more likely to adopt new techniques when information is delivered in their native language.

Farmers can interact with Darli via WhatsApp, text, or phone to receive real-time weather updates, crop disease detection, and best practices on regenerative farming. Field officers can also capture images of crops to diagnose diseases and get immediate recommendations.

Founded in 2013 by Alloysius Attah and Emmanuel Owusu Addai with just $600, Farmerline has grown to support 2.2 million farmers across Africa, digitizing 4.5 million acres of farmland. The company’s AI-powered credit scoring system helps farmers secure flexible financing, addressing the seasonal nature of their income.

Beyond benefiting farmers, Farmerline collaborates with 3,000 partners, including major food suppliers, to ensure ethical supply chains free from child labor and deforestation. Recognized as a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer, Farmerline's impact continues to grow, with Darli AI named one of TIME’s best inventions of 2024.
