Lisbon Is Banning Cars From Driving Through Its Centre

From 26 April, vehicles can no longer pass through the historic downtown on the way somewhere else. They will instead be redirected to roads outside of downtown. But vehicles can still drive to reach city centre destinations. An even bigger area is banning vehicles of 3.5 tonnes or more from 8am - 8pm, including tourist buses, though public transport is exempt. The trial ban will last for 3 months to reduce congestion as Lisbon undergoes major construction work including building 2 new metro stations and installing new storm drains along the waterfront.
