Low-carbon biofuels are becoming popular. But what are they?
Biofuels are created from organic materials such as sugar cane, corn or soybeans as well as farm waste. They can be used to heat homes, generate electricity or power cars and other transport. Biofuels produce fewer emissions than fossil fuels. They can often be used in standard engines, with no or very few changes. This gives them an advantage over electrification which often requires a new engine.
