More Than 1 in 5 of Us Will Live in Extreme Temperatures by 2100

Scientists define extreme heat as an average temperature of 29˚C or above. At that level, temperatures are likely to exceed 40˚C for 75 days each year. Today, 0.9% of people live in extreme heat. Experts say we are on course for 2.7˚C of warming by 2100 which would leave 22% of us living in extreme heat. That’s 2 billion people.
