Progress on Gender Equality Has Stalled. Here’s Why
The global gender gap has closed only by 0.3 percentage points since last year. This means equality has recovered to the same level as before the pandemic. 117 out of 146 countries have now closed 95% of the gender gap in educational attainment but parity is lagging in other areas. The world has closed just 60.1% of the economic participation and opportunity gap and only 22.1% of the political empowerment gap. At this rate, the predicted date of full gender parity remains 2154, 131 years from now.
