The World Wide Web as We Know It Is 30 Years Old
British scientist Tim Berners-Lee first came up with the idea in 1989. The first website went live at Swiss research institute CERN in late 1990. On 30 April 1993, CERN released the web into the public domain and the world changed forever. By the end of 1993, there were 623 sites on the web. 1 year later, there were more than 10,000 and 100,000 a year after that.
